Social Work

Mahe Nau Awan, PhD, MSW, RSW (she/her) Counselling Therapist | Registered Social Worker with the BC College of Social Workers

With over a decade of experience in social work, counselling, and community advocacy, Mahe specializes in supporting diverse, multi-barrier populations. She holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Waterloo and a PhD from the University of Surrey, UK. Mahe is the recipient of the Town and Gown Award for Community Engagement and the Norma Brown Award for Professionally Trained Women in Social Work. She is an active member of the BC Association of Social Workers.

Mahe offers counselling services to children, youth, adults, couples, and families, addressing concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, autism, OCD, and pain management. She integrates culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, and evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Family Systems Therapy (FST), employing solution-focused, client-centred practices tailored to individual needs.

Her counselling style incorporates a holistic, bio-psychosocial-spiritual approach that promotes resilience and empowerment. Mahe is committed to lifelong learning, professional ethics, and creating a safe, respectful environment where clients can heal and thrive.

Counselling availability: Mondays and Wednesdays, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, both in-person and online.

Mahe also collaborates closely with parents to support challenges that affect parenting and children’s behaviors. Her services can be booked while your child attends speech-language pathology (SLP) sessions, maximizing time and resources for a one-stop-shop experience.

Dani received her Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of British Columbia. She has experience working with a diverse set of clients and needs, including Autism, Childhood Apraxia of Speech, Developmental Language Disorders, Speech Sound Disorders, and Alternative and Augmentative communication (AAC), and Aphasia.

Dani believes building a connection always comes first in therapy, and loves creating long-lasting connections with the children and families she works with. She advocates for the use of multiple, intersecting approaches to therapy, including a neurodiversity-affirming, culturally responsive, play-based, and family-centered lens.

Dani is dedicated to advocacy and has a particular interest for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access in healthcare. She served as the Director-Student for Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC) to advocate for student’s needs.

Jessica completed her Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the Education University of Hong Kong. She has extensive experience working with preschool and school aged children with a variety of needs, including Autism, Developmental Language Disorders, Speech Sound Disorders, and Alternative and Augmentative communication (AAC). Jessica believes in a client-centered, play-based approach to therapy as children learn best when they are having fun. Jessica is RASP certified and she is also trained in the Hanen More Than Words program, Beckman oral motor program and Talk Tools.

Being fluent in English and Cantonese, Jessica is passionate about serving the multicultural and multilinguistic community in Canada. When she’s not working, you can find Jessica exploring different parks across Vancouver with her two girls.

Speech Language Pathologist

Anastasia received her master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of British Columbia. Anastasia works in inpatient acute care settings with adults focusing on swallowing and communication changes. She has also worked in an elementary school setting with school-aged children. A few of Anastasia’s interests include articulation, language development, and voice.

Anastasia strongly values research, evidence-based practice, and client-centred care. She believes that the client should have a say in the therapy they receive and every session should be tailored to the individual to increase enjoyment and applicability to everyday life. Chris graduated with a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from McGill University. He has experience working with autistic children, people who stutter, professional voice users, and recovering stroke survivors, among many other diverse client profiles.

Chris is dedicated to the career of Speech-Language Pathology to enact meaningful change in the lives of clients and families. To achieve this, he believes in designing treatment that reflects the interests of each client and continuously incorporates feedback to individualize treatment through ongoing collaboration with caregivers and team members. Chris takes pride in fostering a genuine connection with people and bringing excitement and creativity into the therapy room.

Speech Language Pathologist

Queeny received her Masters of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of British Columbia. She finds great joy in working with children and embraces the unique relationships that she forms with her clients and their families. Queeny has experience working with a range of pediatric speech, language, and social communication delays and disorders in a variety of settings including public health, school, private practice, home environments, and teletherapy. Her clinical interests include early language development, bilingualism, developmental language disorder, speech sound disorders, autism, literacy, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).

Queeny offers diagnostic and therapeutic services that are person-centred and neurodiversity affirming. She fosters a safe and positive environment for learning and believes that therapy should be motivating and enjoyable for everyone involved. Committed to providing individualized and evidence-based care to her clients, Queeny values collaborative partnerships with families and multidisciplinary teams and she advocates for a child-led, play-based approach to promote functional communication.

Speech Language Pathologist

Ina obtained her master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of British Columbia. Since then, she has continued to work with both paediatric and adult clients through in-person sessions and via teletherapy. Ina enjoys working with a diversity of clients, targetting areas of intervention including voice therapy, speech sound disorders, early language development, and the use of alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) systems for complex communicators. Ina is RASP certified and has additional training in TalkTools.

Ina is an advocate for evidence-based practices, and continues to engage in continuing education courses to better support her clients in achieving their goals of better health, communication, and quality of life. Ina also supports the SpeechEase team through mentorship and training of the SLP assistants.

Ina believes that everyone has the right to communicate, and she is dedicated to providing client-centred services by collaboratively creating functional and personal goals that support and enhance clients’ current abilities. For her, this means identifying strategies that can be incorporated by the clients’ team (and family) and providing education/coaching for the family.

Speech Language Pathology Assistant

Marlinda is an undergraduate student at the University of British Columbia, currently completing a major in Speech Sciences. After graduation, Marlinda intends to obtain a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology and work as a paediatric speech language pathologist.

Marlinda has always enjoyed working with children because of their unique imagination, creativity, and sincerity. In the last four years, Marlinda worked as a reading and math tutor for children aged 3-17. Through Marlinda’s work with her students, she built meaningful relationships with many children and their families which she continues to cherish.

Marlinda chose the career path of paediatric speech language pathology because of the positive impact it can have on children and their families. She is excited to work in this amazing field and help improve children’s communication abilities through play, conversations, and friendly relationships.

Speech Language Pathologist

Chelsey completed her master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Alberta in 2015. She has since worked with pediatric clients in a variety of settings including preschools, daycares, elementary schools, clinics, homes and online. She enjoys working with speech sound disorders including articulation disorders, phonological disorders and childhood apraxia of speech. She also has experience working with children with developmental language disorders and autism.

Working with SpeechEase allows Chelsey to have time to support families on their therapy journey. Chelsey believes in providing client-centred care with a focus on meaningful and functional goals. Celine is currently a student at the University of British Columbia (UBC), where she is majoring in Psychology and minoring in Linguistics. Her academic journey is driven by a lifelong passion for understanding the complexities of human communication and cognition. Celine aspires to become a Speech Language Pathologist, a dream she has nurtured since she was little.

Celine’s love for children is at the heart of her academic and career pursuits. She has always had a desire to help people, especially when it comes to ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to communicate effectively and gain confidence in their abilities.
